Walt Barker Photography

Walt Barker   Walt spent his childhood on a farm in southwest Virginia where he was always outdoors with his younger brother, exploring the forests, streams, and hills of the Appalachian Mountains. Growing up in such an environment instilled in Walt a deep sense of connection to the natural world, a connection he values greatly and constantly strives to preserve.

He became interested in visual arts in high school while experimenting with an old Minolta camera. Even today, some of his best images come from that same camera.

Walt’s love of nature and exploration eventually led him to the western United States, where he worked for the U.S. Forest Service for over eleven years as a professional wildland firefighter and earned a degree in natural resources from Utah State University.

Today, when Walt goes into the field to work, he utilizes a wealth of outdoor skills learned during his experience with the Forest Service and from countless days skiing, climbing, and backpacking.

Walt’s photographs and writing have appeared in the Uinta County Herald, where he was an outdoor columnist, staff writer, and photographer. His fine art photography is represented by Blyth Art Gallery in Evanston, Wyoming, and his images have been used by the Uinta County Museum, also located in Evanston, as a basis for exhibit artwork. He is an active member of the North American Nature Photography Association.
